Velma Ayuma Inyangala’s Story

Name: Velma Ayuma Inyangala
Age: 12 years
Gender: Female
Location: Ebusiloli, Emuhaya, Vihiga, Kenya

About Velma

Meet Velma Ayuma Inyangala, a courageous 12-year-old girl with a heart full of dreams and a spirit that refuses to be defeated. Velma is the third of five siblings, and she lives with her family in Ebusiloli, a small village in Emuhaya, Vihiga. Despite the numerous challenges she faces, Velma’s determination to overcome her obstacles is truly inspiring.

Health Challenges

Velma was born with club feet and muscular dystrophy, conditions that have significantly affected her mobility and overall health. Diagnosed with cerebral palsy on April 5, 2012, Velma has struggled with weak bones, difficulty walking, and an inability to lift heavy objects. Her condition requires ongoing medical intervention, including physiotherapy and the use of orthopedic aids such as crutches and caliper boots.

Velma’s condition necessitates corrective surgery for her club feet, which is crucial for improving her quality of life. However, her family’s financial situation makes it impossible to afford the necessary medical and educational support. Her parents, Caleb Inyangala and Miriam Asiachi, are both unemployed and unable to meet the extensive needs of their children.

Education and Aspirations

Despite her health challenges, Velma is determined to pursue her education. She is currently enrolled in Grade 7 at Joyland Special School, a special institution that caters to her unique needs. However, financial constraints have made it difficult for her to continue her studies regularly. Velma has already faced interruptions in her education due to the inability to pay school fees.

Velma dreams of completing her education and one day becoming a source of support for her family. Her aspirations drive her to persevere, but she needs external help to make these dreams a reality.
