ABOUT CHRITOCO

Christian Touch Community Resource Centre (CHRITOCO RESOURCE CENTRE) was Founded by a group of fifteen (15) Community members in the year 2001. This was spurred by the urgency to respond and reach out to families of children with Cerebral palsy and epilepsy in the Luanda and Emuhaya Divisions in need of support in the care and pro- tection of those children. 

It got registered with the Ministry of Culture and Social Services as a community based organiza- tion in the year 2002. Imbued with Christian values, attitudes and a sense of responsible community care, the CBO aims at facilitating the communities ( in Emuhaya and Luanda Sub-Counties) in their quest for infor- mation, knowledge and technologies appropriate in up lighting their living standards. The CBO’s role in the Community is therefore educational, stimulatory, enabling, advocacy and co-ordinatory in the while endeavor of managing cerebral palsy syndrome and epilepsy in the community. Located near Emuhaya Divisional headquarters in Emuhaya Division, Vihiga District in the Republic of Kenya, CHRITOCO RESOURCE CENTRE is basically in the heartland of the Bunyore people ( a sub-ethnic group of the luhya people) in western province- Republic of Kenya.

OUR OBJECTIVES

  • To establish a fully-fledged Cerebral palsyand Epilepsy clinic at CHRITOCO Resource Centre by the end of 1st year of programme activities.
  • To train in small business management skills and offer credit to parents / guardians of Cere- bral palsy and Epilepsy patients being attended to at CHRITOCO Resource Centre clinic by the year 2005 with a view to enabling them start income generating activities.
  • To rehabilitate and integrate in normal primary schools within the community at CHRITOCO Resource Centre Clinic using adapted facilities suitable to their educational instruc- tions by the end of 2nd year.
  • To provide skilled training to persons with Cerebral palsy and Epilepsy currently being attended to at CHRITOCO Resource Centre by the end of 2nd year of programme activities with a view to building their individual capacities for self-reliance.
  • To establish a conducive environment in community for the children with Cerebral palsy and Epilepsy currently being attended to at CRITOCO Resource Centre clinic by the year 2005 with a view to enabling them develop normally, realize their potentials in a manner that is creative, socially acceptable and per- sonally gratifying.
  • To carry out guiding and counseling for parents and immediate family members of the Cerebral palsy and Epilepsy patients receiving medication and physiotherapy attention at CHRITOCO RESOURCE Centre clinic with a view to ameliorating the emotional and psychological trauma experienced and associated with Cerebral palsy and Epilepsy.
  • To cause community awareness on the causes, identification, prevention, treatment and management of Cerebral palsy and Epilepsy in communities living in Emuhaya and Luanda divisions with a view to dispelling cultural beliefs, associated with cerebral palsy as well as de-stigmatizing the problem.
